Hackathon – SPCN2021

Hackathon

Dear friends!

We invite you to participate in the SPCN 2021 hackathon on the application of neurotechnology and machine learning methods on November 1-8, 2021.

SPCN 2021 - VI International Conference "Video and Audio Signal Processing in the Context of Neurotechnologies". The conference provides a unique opportunity to communicate in the field of interdisciplinary research in the fastest growing areas of cognitive sciences, sensory physiology, neurotechnology, neural networks, and artificial intelligence.

The organizers of the hackathon are: Pavlov Institute of Physiology of the Russian Academy of Sciences, St. Petersburg State Electrotechnical University "LETI", St. Petersburg State University of Film and Television.

Teams of students and young scientists of 2 to 3 people from Russian and foreign universities, academic institutes, and industrial enterprises are invited to participate in the hackathon. Teams will be asked to solve tasks - cases in several areas: intelligent processing of signals, video, audio and text information, processing and analytics of large amounts of data, modeling the process of artistic creation. Cases and data for processing will be provided, among other things, by the hackathon partners - leading Russian and world infocommunication companies - leaders in the field of signal processing and artificial intelligence.

The winners will be determined by a jury consisting of specialists from partner companies, as well as leading scientists in the field of artificial intelligence.

Direction

Intelligent processing of signals, video, audio and text information (November 10-11, 2020).

Modeling of the process of artistic creation

Tasks: to develop an algorithm for the automatic compilation of abstractions, or short semantically significant audiovisual descriptions of films.

Abstraction is a set of semantically significant, key fragments of a film, which provides general information about the genre of the film, its plot, time of action, etc. During filmmaking, the sequence of key semantically significant frames is determined prior to filming in the form of a so-called "storyboard". Composing an abstraction requires solving an inverse problem, i.e. finding key frames in the finished film.

The abstraction is like a movie trailer. But the main task of the trailer is advertising. The trailer should captivate the viewer and draw them into the theater. Abstraction is for informational purposes. Automatic generation of abstractions is important for creating effective media archive management systems. Abstractions will make it possible to create a "showcase" for film collections, which store the invaluable but not widely known film memory of human activity accumulated over a century. Abstractions are also required for the automatic indexing and compact description of videos of user-generated content on the Internet, the volume of which is growing like an avalanche.

After four days, 5 November 2021, 6pm, eavh team of students must present to the jury the developed algorithm for composing abstractions of a film and an abstraction of a given film with a duration of up to three minutes. A film for which an abstraction is to be created during four days of the hackathon, will be assigned by the jury of the hackathon on the first day – 1 November 2021, 2:40pm – 3:50pm.

To participate in the hackathon, teams must apply. The application is filled in by the team captain and submitted to the hackathon organizing committee by 14.00 on November 1, 2021 through the application form posted at:

The work on the cases should be completed by 4 pm on November 11. After completing the work on the case, each team must present their solution to the hackathon jury. The competition works will be viewed and the winners will be awarded on November 8, 2021 from 16:25 to 18:05.
